TNPSC Group 1 Services Selection Processes

What are the different stages of selection for the posts included in Group-I services?
i. Preliminary Examination for selection of candidates for admission to the Main Written Examination.
ii. Main Written Examination
iii. Oral Test in the shape of an interview.

Are the marks obtained by me in the Preliminary Examination taken into account for determining the final order of merit?No. The Preliminary Examination is meant to serve as screening test only.

How many candidates are admitted to the Main Written Examination?20 times the number of candidates to be recruited having regard to the rule of reservation of appointments.

If large number of candidates secure the same marks as that of the cut-off marks of their reservation groups, will all of them be admitted to the Main Written Examination, even though the number of candidates to be admitted to the Main Written Examination exceeds 1:20 ratio?Yes.

Is appearance in all the papers in the Main Written Examination / Written Examination compulsory?Yes. The candidates who have not appeared for any of the subjects in the Main Written Examination / Written Examination will not be considered for selection even if they secure the minimum qualifying marks for selection.

Is the selection of a candidate by the Commission guarantees actual appointment?No.

I belong to the reservation group. Am I eligible for selection against the vacancies to be filled under “General Turns” on the basis of merit?Yes.

How the selection list is drawn by the Commission?First the candidates are picked up category wise (i.e. G.T. / B.C.(OBCM) / B.C.(M) / M.B.C./D.C / S.C. / S.C. (A) / S.T.) from the Ranking List against the required number of vacancies. Thereafter, the above said candidates are fitted in the roster on the basis of the marks obtained by them & as per the turns arising in the roster.

Whether a B.C.(OBCM) / B.C.(M) / M.B.C./D.C / S.C. / S.C. (A) / S.T. candidate picked under General Turn can be fitted in his respective communal turn?Yes. The candidates selected under G.T. are fitted in the G.T. as well as in the respective communal turn.
