Group I examinations What does it entail?


On the account of extension of the registration dates of Group I examination by TNPSC Board, a brief accounting on what Group I examinations are all about, what they entail-
The posts that come under Group I examination category are:
1.       Deputy Collector (Post Code 1001) under the jurisdiction of Tamil Nadu Civil Service
2.       Deputy Superintendent of Police (Category – I) (Post Code: 1002) under the jurisdiction of Tamil Nadu Police Service
3.       Assistant Commissioner (C.T.) (Post Code:1003) under the jurisdiction of Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Service
4.       District Registrar (Post Code: 1005) under the jurisdiction of Tamil Nadu Registration Service
5.       District Employment Officer (Post Code: 1007) under the jurisdiction of Tamil Nadu General Service
One can apply for any of these posts by writing the Group I exams and clearing the same. The selection of the posts on clearing the exams would depend on the note of marks secured in the exams and caste benefits as declared by the Government.
The Educational Qualification required:
Candidates should possess a Degree of any of the Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or any other Educational Institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956
is the declaration as described by the board of TNPSC in effect as on 16-11-2012.
In simpler terms –
·         The qualification prescribed above should have been obtained by passing the required degree course in the order of studies 10th, HSC and Bachelor’s degree.
·         The Candidates, who have written the final year degree examination, may also apply to the Preliminary Examination for direct recruitment to the posts included in Group-I Services, subject to the condition that they should produce proof of having passed the degree examination when admitted to the Main Written Examination, failing which they will not be admitted to the Main Written Examination.
Age Limit:
Basing on the above requirements the age limit for the candidates to be eligible for this examination and posts would be 21 years minimum, and not exceeding 30 years of age for General Caste. The SC/ST has a privilege of attending for the exam till the age of 35 years.
*Special allowance will be made for candidates who have studied and achieved their degree in Tamil Medium Schools and Colleges.
