TNPSC Examination and Recruitment


What is TNPSC?
The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) is an agency established by the Constitution of India that is involved in the recruitment of candidates who will be seated in various posts in Public Service department of Tamil Nadu.
How will the candidates be selected for the post?
Any candidate wanting to get selected for a post in the public service department of the State would have to undertake an examination procedure called TNPSC Exam.
What are the qualifications for taking up that exam?
The candidate must have an educational qualification of a bachelor’s degree or a post graduate degree from any recognized university in Tamil Nadu or from India.
Also the candidate must be an Indian citizen. Required proof for the same shall be submitted in the form of Ration card or Voter’s ID or Driving license and other related Government accredited proof ID.
Is there an age limit for the exam?
Your age must be in between 21 years to 30 years.
To whom does the government provide age relaxation?

Age relaxation provided by the Government as follows:
SC/ST Candidates - upto 5 years extra from the prescribed age limit.
OBC Candidates – upto 3 years extra from the prescribed age limit.
Physically Handicapped Candidates – upto 10 years extra from the prescribed age limit.
What are Group 1 and Group 2 exams?
Group exams are the exams conducted by each State Board. Group exams are divided on the basement of rank and pay package.Groups decide the rank and power along with pay package.

Group 1 includes post of IAS Officers like Assistant Collector and higher posts of similar rank.
Group 2 consists of Tasildars, Revenue Officers posts
Group 3 and Group 4 consist of Typists and junior ranking officials posts.



Who can apply for which Groups? What is the eligibility criterion?

Group1 :
Educational Qualifications: Any graduate from recognized university(Post graduate degree much preferred).


Group 2:
Educational Qualification: Bachelor degree.


Group 3:
Educational Qualification: you must be 12th Class Passed out.


Group 4 :
Educational Qualification: you must have completed your 12th Class.

On what areas does the exam focus on?

The exam would cover various general and public topics like:

Current Events
Indian National Movement
Mental Ability Test
General Science
History
Indian Politics
Indian Economy

When will exam results be announced?

The exam results for each group and each post recruitment basis will be announced individually.
But one can expect results through online within 40 days-2 months period.
